Coca-Cola Launches Recycle Week Recycling Campaign

Coca-Cola Europe has launched a new marketing campaign aimed at encouraging people to recycle their empty drinks bottles and rewarding them when they do, just in time for Recycle Week.

A TV advert will run alongside a competition and social media activity with the hashtag #CokeDunks, which challenges followers to film themselves slam-dunking their empty bottles in recycling bins in all kinds of creative ways to win a prize. The social media campaign will feature sporting ambassadors such as Olympic gymnast Nile Wilson and freestyle basketballer Tom Connors, who will use their own particular skills to slam dunk their own coke bottles to show that recycling definitely doesn’t have to be dull. People who don’t have a real bottle to put in the bin can still join in with the fun, as there’ll be a Snapchat lens where people can virtually dunk empty bottles into a recycling bin.

The TV ad, titled “Across the Tracks” will be aired on Saturday 15 September on ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky TV networks as part of Coca Cola’s commitment to use the power of its brand to encourage people to recycle. The TV advert shows a man collecting bottles for recycling in a busy train station when a lady who is running for her train catches his attention and he tries to catch her eye with a bottle of Coca-Cola zero sugar.

During Recycle Week, which runs from 13th-19th September, Coca Cola will take over Piccadilly lights and encourage passers-by to recycle their plastic bottles once they’ve finished their drink.

This recycling campaign is the latest initiative that Coca-Cola Europe and Coca-Cola Great Britain have put in place to make sure the product packaging they use is as sustainable as possible and it also builds on the company’s recent joint initiative with Merlin Entertainments, where people were offered half price entry to some of the UK’s biggest theme parks and popular attractions in exchange for recycling their plastic bottles.

All Coca-Cola packaging is 100% recyclable and contains a minimum of 25% recycled plastic, and the company has committed to use at least 50% recycled plastic in its products by 2020.
